Museum of website design

Welcome to the museum of old work. Trends, technologies, monitor resolutions, user preferences are constantly evolving. Today it is hard to imagine how we used the first PDAs and sat behind CRT monitors with a resolution of 1024 by 768 px. And even though some works from this section may seem irrelevant now, we still want to share them.

Technology and user requirements change over time, and web design is no exception. Over the past 20 years, web design has gone through many changes that have led to the emergence of new historical types of website design. Let’s take a look at a few stages of web design development over the past 20 years and find out what types of designs still exist today.

The Early Years of the Internet (1990s)

In the early 1990s, the internet was young and uncertain. Websites were like documents containing text and small images. Text was formatted as tables, and pages used simple graphics and links. During this period, web designers used a limited set of colors and backgrounds, and sites were designed primarily in HTML and CSS.

The dot-com boom (2000s)

The 2000s saw the dot-com boom, which led to a significant increase in the number of websites on the internet. During this period, web designers started using more advanced technologies such as Flash and JavaScript.

Websites have become more dynamic and interactive, and the use of color and images has become more extensive. In addition, new design elements such as navigation menus and image sliders emerged.

The revival of minimalism (2010s)

In the 2010s, web design began to hold back from colorful and prominent elements and returned to minimalism. Websites began using more white space, simple color schemes, and flat design. This approach to design focused on the content and functionality of the site instead of flashy and noticeable elements. This period also saw the emergence of new technologies such as responsive design, which allow websites to easily adapt to different types of gadgets.

Our time: the 20s.

Web design has undergone a number of significant changes over the past 10 years. Technological advances and changes in user behavior have led to the development of new web design techniques and technologies.

Adaptive design

One of the most significant changes in web design over the past 10 years is the development of responsive design. Adaptive design allows a website to adjust to the screen size of the user’s device, which improves the user experience. This approach has become especially important with the increase in mobile devices.

Minimalist design

Everything in the world repeats itself, and the fashion for minimalism is no exception. Another trend in web design over the last 10 years is minimalist design. Instead of cluttered pages with lots of elements, designers are now leaning towards a simpler and more concise design that focuses on key elements.

Interactive design

As technology and browser capabilities have evolved, designers have begun to utilize increasingly sophisticated effects and animations to create interactive websites. Interactive design has become especially popular in recent years, and it is now one of the most prominent trends in web design.

Graphic design

Graphic design has also undergone a number of changes over the last 10 years. Designers have started using bolder colors and more expressive fonts to catch the attention of visitors. At the same time, simplicity and brevity in design remain core values.

Web Design Museums

There are many museums around the world that are dedicated to the history of design. Some of these museums have separate exhibitions and collections dedicated to web design. For example, the Design Museum in London has exhibitions and events that balance the action art of commercial display.
